Description |
A prolific artist, Snow worked in watercolour, oil, mixed media, concrete sculpture, textiles, and intaglio relief, as well as lithography. Snow's work of landscape, figures, florals, and still lifes has been described as moody and rich-hued, varied and venturesome. It often evokes the prairie experience by way of his unique artistic vocabulary. Biographical Information: John Harold Thomas Snow was born in Vancouver in 1911. His family moved to England but returned to the Olds/Innisfail area of Alberta in 1919. His career with the Royal Bank of Canada in Bowden and Calgary was briefly interrupted when he enlisted for an overseas tour during the Second World War. Upon his return to Calgary, Snow resumed working for RBC while pursuing a second professional interest - art. He received the Alberta Order of Excellence in 1996. His work can be found in collections such as the Medicine Hat Museum and Art Gallery, the National Gallery of Canada, the Royal Ontario Museum, and the University of Guelph. John Snow died on August 23, 2004 at the age of ninety-two. |
