Description |
Barbara McGivern, also known as the Gold Lady, is a Canadian artist born in Toronto, Ontario. One of her best known series, The Extraordinary Journey, was inspired by her trips through deserts of Oman and Saudi Arabia, when she began incorporating the use of gold leaf (18 to 24 carat) into her work. Her style is most notable for presenting gold as a colour rather than as a precious metal. A typical Barbara McGivern painting vibrates with barely restrained energy. Boldly composed and saturated with colour, her canvases are basically abstract. The square has become one of her favourite devices, but she is also inspired by the shapes and colours of landscape. Biographical Information: Red Chair with Figure's texture and dynamism are token attributes of McGivern's work. The mixture of paint and small elements of gold create a harmony between the two as colour and as material. McGivern's paintings are in private and corporate collections in Canada, Europe and the Middle East. |
