Description |
Shirley Erskine-Kupsick describes her works in collage and paint as "expressionistic" with a varied range of theme and subject matter. She uses transparent inks to achieve an effect of a glasslike fragility. The materials used in her collage paintings range from ink-dyed Japanese rice paper, tempered glass, found objects, and acrylic paint. Free to Challenge is a collage and acrylic painting depicting a forceful and determined thrust. As an artist, Erskine attempts to approach themes of freedom and expression with a vision that glorifies the human spirit. Linescape (1996) is divided into 3 areas with rectangular patterns Biographical Information: Erskine studied art at Sheridan College in Oakville and the University of Toronto. She then went on to teach art. Her extensive teaching and travel experiences continue to inform her work. Erskine's paintings have been exhibited extensively, garnering many awards. She was recognized as "Mississauga's Visual Artist of the Year" in 1997. Her paintings can be found across Canada, USA, England, Europe, Asia, the United Arab Emirates, Australia, and in many commercial permanent collections. |
