November Sun, Halton Hills (1997) is set during daybreak or sunset in a winter setting. Unlike conventional watercolour, Ustohal defines his image with bold black strokes and muted hues.
Jiri Ustohal studied at the College of Art in Czechoslovakia and the Graphics Art School in Prague. Ustohal has been affiliated with a number of artist societies. Through these societies and annual exhibitions, he has gained a growing recognition for his mysterious and sensitively executed paintings and drawings. Ustohal has exhibited his work consistently in juried exhibitions and has received several awards of recognition, such as the American Watercolour Society award.
