Gil Caldwell is a watercolourist whose use of semi-abstract and semi-realistic styles for his subjects give a unique perspective to his media.
Born and educated in Toronto, he graduated from the Ontario College of Art, McMaster University (B.A), University of Toronto (B.Ed) and Niagara University, U.S.A. (M.Sc.Ed). Gil was a vice-principal for many years before retiring in 1988. He has since dedicated much time to pursuing his art career. Gil's highly detailed and coloured watercolours can be described as appearing as though painted in gouache though he frequently also works in the more traditional transparent techniques . Printmaking, with a special emphasis on lino prints, is one of his favourite mediums.
